For the second time in two years, the Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps Center played host to the Veterans Issues Forum, featuring Senators David Durenberger and Paul Wellstone. However, the event, which was held on June 2nd and sponsored by the St. Paul Chapter 320-Vietnam Veterans of America, was more than a reunion. A slide show by Marybeth Crowley titled A Nurses' Tour in Vietnam was the only departure in an evening dominated by discussion.
The topic that received perhaps the most attention was employment: An issue that was right at home at HHHJCC. Students, who volunteered to set-up for the event and stayed to listen, felt the rest of the center could benefit from a similar forum on their specific needs. Sue Henson, the Humphrey Center's new community liaison, followed-up on the request: I spoke with both senators and they were receptive to such a wonderful idea. In fact, Hanson discovered afterwards that she will be accompanying student Tim Holzer to Washington DC this month. Their assignment: To represent HHHJCC at an event sponsored by the Home Builder's Institute to showcase Job Corps to policy makers.
