Career Development Services System

The four stages of the Career Development Services System include:

    Outreach and Admissions.

    OA Staff will:

    • Develop community education programs
    • Market to youth development agencies
    • Partner with One-Stops
    • Inform prospective students about life at Job Corps and CDSS benefits

      Career Preparation Period (the first sixty days )

      Job Corps Center Staff will :

    • Communicate, model and expect employability skills, including personal responsibility and computer skills
    • Assist the student in creating a personal career development plan
    • Earn the student’s respect and trust in achieving the plan

      Career Development Period (the remaining time on center)

      Job Corps Center Staff and Employer will help the student learn, demonstrate and practice:

    • A trade
    • Technical and academic skills
    • Interpersonal communication and problem- solving skills
    • Social and interpersonal management skills, including independent living skills
    • Job Search skills

      Career Transition Period (post center)

      Job Corps Center Staff and Other Service Providers will:

    • Earn the former student’s respect and trust
    • Assist the student in getting his or her first job
    • Help the student find living space, transportation and family support resources needed to continue working.
